Whip Test Reveals Canal Clues
Clear vision during movement depends on rapid reflexes between the inner ear and the eyes. When these reflexes weaken, people may feel dizziness, brief blurring, imbalance, or instability when turning their head. Symptoms often appear during walking, driving, or quick movements. vHIT helps identify whether this fast balance response is working properly.

Testing the Inner Ear’s Quick Response System
The Video Head Impulse Test assesses how well each balance canal responds to rapid head movements. During the test, you wear lightweight video goggles while we apply small, quick head turns. The system tracks eye movements in real time to see whether the eyes stay fixed on a target, as they should when the balance function is intact.
At Harley AVM, vHIT is performed in a clinic setting and takes only a short time. The test is non-invasive and well-tolerated, with no recovery period required. Results help identify reduced function in specific balance canals and guide accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Pinpointing the Cause
Tiered Turn Assessment
Canal Command Centre
Assessment begins with a detailed history and examination, supported by hearing and vestibular tests where appropriate. We consider symptom triggers, daily impact, and movement-related difficulties before recommending vHIT as part of the evaluation.
Management usually remains non-surgical. vHIT findings guide vestibular rehabilitation, monitoring, or medical management, helping us target therapy to the specific balance pathways involved. Further investigation or referral is considered only when symptoms persist, worsen, or significantly affect safety and independence.
Thrust to Triumph with Us
At Harley Street Audiovestibular Clinic, vHIT is used as part of a comprehensive balance assessment, not a standalone test. Our team focuses exclusively on hearing and vestibular disorders, allowing us to interpret rapid eye–head reflex data alongside other clinical findings. We explain results clearly, showing how they relate to your symptoms and what they mean for recovery or management.
Testing and follow-up are coordinated within one clinic, ensuring continuity of care. If dizziness, blurred vision with movement, or imbalance continues, we invite you to book an assessment, request a call back, or submit an enquiry to explore tailored next steps with our team.
