Structural Insight Scans
Reveal Hidden Ear Culprits
Some hearing or balance symptoms cannot be fully explained by examination or clinic-based tests alone. MRI and CT scans help visualise the inner ear, hearing nerves, and surrounding structures. They are commonly used for persistent tinnitus, unexplained hearing changes, dizziness, facial symptoms, or imbalance when routine assessments do not provide clear answers.

Seeing What Clinical Tests Cannot
MRI and CT scans provide detailed images of the inner ear, auditory pathways, balance organs, and nearby brain structures. CT scans focus on bone anatomy, while MRIs highlight nerves and soft tissue. These scans do not diagnose symptoms alone but help rule out structural, inflammatory, or neurological causes that may influence hearing, tinnitus, or balance.
At Harley AVM, imaging is requested selectively and interpreted in a clinical context. Scans are performed at accredited imaging centres and are non-invasive. MRI does not involve radiation, while CT uses low-dose imaging when appropriate. Results support safe, informed decisions and help avoid unnecessary or inappropriate treatment.

Pinpointing the Cause
Targeted Imaging Pathway
Imaging Excellence Hub
Assessment always begins with a detailed history, ear examination, and expert audiovestibular testing. We look at symptom patterns, progression, and associated neurological or balance features before considering imaging. Hearing tests, vestibular assessments, and clinical findings usually guide the next step.
MRI or CT scans are requested only when symptoms persist, raise clinical concern, or remain unexplained despite appropriate testing. This stepwise approach avoids unnecessary scans while ensuring important conditions are not overlooked.
Trust Our Scan-to-Solution Flow
