Tilt Perception Challenge
Align Your Inner Plumb Line
Your sense of balance relies on balance organs in the inner ear sending accurate signals to the brain. When these signals shift, people may feel tilted, pulled to one side, or visually misaligned. Symptoms can include imbalance, veering, spatial disorientation, or difficulty judging straight lines, even without spinning or obvious vertigo.

Assessing Spatial Orientation Signals
Measuring How You Perceive Vertical and Horizontal
Subjective visual vertical and horizontal testing evaluate how accurately the brain perceives upright and level positioning. During the test, you are asked to align a visual reference, such as a line or light, to what feels straight or level to you. Your responses reflect how well-balanced signals from the inner ear integrate with visual and brain pathways.
At Harley AVM, SVV/SVVH testing is conducted in a quiet, controlled clinic setting. The test is non-invasive, brief, and does not cause dizziness. Results help identify subtle balance pathway disturbances, particularly when symptoms involve spatial disorientation rather than spinning sensations.
Pinpointing the Cause
Orientation Orderly Outreach
Perception Perfection Point
Assessment begins with a detailed history, ear examination, and appropriate hearing and vestibular tests. We consider how symptoms affect orientation, walking confidence, and spatial awareness before recommending SVV/SVH testing.
Management is usually non-surgical. Results guide vestibular rehabilitation, visual–balance retraining, and monitoring, helping us address the specific pathways contributing to spatial misperception rather than applying generic balance exercises. Further investigation or referral is considered only when symptoms persist, worsen, or significantly affect independence and daily functioning.
True Your Tilt with Experts
At Harley Street Audiovestibular Clinic, SVV/SVH testing is interpreted within an expert balance framework rather than in isolation. Our team focuses exclusively on hearing and vestibular disorders, allowing us to link perceptual findings with clinical symptoms and other test results. We explain what deviations mean, how they relate to your experience, and how they guide targeted rehabilitation.
Assessment, testing, and follow-up are coordinated through one clinic, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication throughout. If the balance feels misaligned, spatial confidence is reduced, or symptoms persist without a clear explanation, we invite you to book an assessment, request a call back, or submit an enquiry to discuss tailored next steps with our team.
